What is YAD?
The Community Center’s Youth Alliance for Diversity (YAD) is a place for LGBTQIA+ teens to gain the tools for adulthood in a safe space.
Here at YAD, volunteers teach attendees queer and trans history, life skills, social skills, and how to build confidence. It’s a place where teens can be themselves in a safe and friendly environment—and occasionally smoke their friends at a game of Uno!
Check out the YAD Facebook page to see our weekly events.
Who Can Come?
The group is open to anyone ages 14-20, and no registration is required.
When and Where?
YAD meets every Sunday from 4-6pm at The Community Center. There’s plenty of parking behind the building!
What’s a Day Like at YAD?
- Food & Drink – Attendees will start off by signing in and grabbing snacks. A meal is also provided (pizza, nuggets, etc.).
- Activities – Whether it’s a presentation by a volunteer or guest speaker, a craft day, or just a board game, there’s always something planned for your time here. We post our planned activities for the month on our Facebook page.
- Free Time – After your activity, you’ll have free time to mingle with your new friends or pull out a game to play!
- Discord – You’ll also get access to YAD’s Discord group to stay up to date and talk with your YAD friends!
