Art Haus Forest Movie Night: “The People’s Joker”
September 18 @ 6:00 pm - 8:30 pm
Introducing Art Haus Forest. A collective of queer art house film enthusiasts looking to elevate the spotlight on underground cinema. There are countless arthouse filmmakers lacking the attention they deserve, and the idea of this group is to help their films grow an audience. Film screenings will be free to the public and focused on a theme each season. Our first season will be focused on new queer voices in arthouse film. Our goal is to introduce more audiences to engaging underground cinema and preserve cinema as an artform. In today’s dangerous political climate, art focused on under represented communities is more important than ever and it’s our goal to share this groundbreaking cinema with more of the world. Films in our first season will include: I Saw the TV Glow, The People’s Joker, Janet Planet, and Mutt.”
Description of The People’s Joker: In her directorial debut, Vera Drew parodies the Joker’s uprising by framing her coming out story within the Batman universe. By using many different styles of animation and special effects, she creates a brutally honest and often hilarious tale of self-discovery and trans empowerment. Drew is an exciting new voice in queer cinema and her debut feature represents the kind of cinematic expression we need more of these days.
