Mak Dowell — Board Member

“I’m here for health equity.”
Through her own lived experience recovering from bulimia nervosa and BED (binge eating disorder), Makailah discovered a passion for pursuing health equity. Along with her work as Lead Peer Mentor at Equip, she also serves on the AED Committee for DEIB, volunteers at ANAD as a group lead and group supervisor, serves on the ANAD Community Engagement Committee, volunteers and supports The Emilee Connection, volunteers and is on the board of The Community Center, and is a Board Director at SoulPaws.
In her own recovery, Makailah faced many treatment accessibility barriers and, through that journey, developed a dedication to highlighting the BIPOC experience in the healthcare community, disability advocacy, and providing affordable & accessible care for all.
Makailah graduated from Johnson & Wales University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Biology with an emphasis on microbiology research and is currently pursuing her Master’s in Population and Health Systems Management from Boise State University. Makailah is DEIB certified from Cornell University to pursue this mission toward equity and belonging within healthcare.
